8/20/2020 0 Comments a mad date for mary - 4.5/5Great feel good comedic movie that will put you in the best kind of mood. A Date for Mad Mary is about a girl, Mary, who has just gotten out of jail and struggling with getting her act together. Her best friend is getting married and she struggles to find a plus one. The acting is great and the accents are an added bonus. I felt that all of the characters were really likable and I wanted to be friends with them. I would definitely watch this movie again I think it is one of those movies that you can watch hundreds of times and it never gets old. 8/11/2020 0 Comments freeheld - 3.5/5If you are planning on watching Freeheld then make sure you have a box of tissues next to you. Freeheld is about a detective, Julianne Moore, fighting against the county to leave her pension benefits to her partner, Ellen Page. We all know any Ellen Page movie is bound to be a good one, but this is a real tearjerker. I do wish the film payed more attention to the relationship between Ellen and Julianne because it felt a bit rushed. Some of the other non-main characters were not as enjoyable, but I felt that overall the film was very engaging and heartfelt. 8/11/2020 0 Comments beanpole (dylda) - 4/5After my friends and I finished this movie, we all agreed that we felt completely empty inside. Beanpole will take all of your emotions and drain them out of you. Since this is a post WW2 film set in Russia, there is a whole lot of tragedy and sadness. I thought the acting and the use of color is what really made the movie great. Red and green were practically the only colors used during the whole film and I would be interested to learn more about why the director chose those colors. The lesbian theme is kind of a slow burn and takes a lot of patience. If you have 2.5 hours to spare and have a good attention span this could be a really good movie for you. 8/10/2020 1 Comment rafiki- 5/5This is a beautiful movie that shows the forbidden love between two Kenyan women. I was shocked to learn that this film was banned in Kenya due to its positive depiction of lesbianism. Besides the wonderful acting and colorful cinematography, I really enjoyed the soundtrack and I found myself Shazaming every song. I am excited to see what the director, Wanuri Kahiu, does next. 8/10/2020 1 Comment what keeps you alive - 2.5/5nProbably one of the most stressful movies I have ever watched, and I don't enjoy stressful movies. I loved both the women but the protagonist's actions were extremely infuriating and illogical to the point where it was difficult to watch. I will say if you plan on watching this movie, don't bother watching the trailer as it is basically one big spoiler. 8/4/2020 1 Comment my days of mercy - 3/5Not gonna lie this movie would have been a massive flop if Ellen Page weren't in it. It was nice to see a lesbian movie without a sad ending, but the rest of the plot is extremely tragic and emotional. 8/4/2020 1 Comment baby jane - 2.5/5I am not really sure how to describe Baby Jane other than depression, toxic relationships and lesbians. This movie seemed like it was going to be really good until the halfway point, where I quickly realized the plot was going nowhere and I was going to end up disappointed. Although I will say there was no homophobia in this movie which is a plus. |
