The premise of this movie is something we have all seen before, two lesbians who can't be together because of religious and cultural reasons. However, this movie was overall good. I decided to give this movie a 3.75 because I don't think it deserved to be as low as 3.5, but also I wasn't like WOWed enough to give it a 4. PS Spoilers Ahead!! Essentially, the character Lola is a teen who is very aware of her sexuality. Carmen, is getting married to Lola's cousin and when they first form a friendship, ignores and does not acknowledge her feelings for Lola. For me, I felt that Carmen was not super like-able throughout the movie until maybe the end. I really liked Lola though. I am glad it wasn't the typical "straight girl turns gay for lesbian" plot because it did seem like that is where it was going in the first 20 minutes or so. Throughout the movie, they pretty much go back and forth between being together and not being together. At the end they run away together which was a surprise ending that I enjoyed. Warning for this movie: There is a very dramatic and emotionally tolling scene where the parents discover that Lola is a lesbian. It can be triggering for some people, there is a lot of yelling and aggressive comments. There is also a scene where Lola's father tries to get her "fixed" at the church which can also be triggering for some people.
